Edith Andrae Obituary

EDITH McFARLAND ANDRAE Edith McFarland Andrae, 89, died Wednesday morning, September 15, 2010 after a brief illness. Born in Prescott, Arizona, her family moved to San Francisco when she was 8. She graduated from Lowell High School and attended San Francisco State following which she married Richard Cantrell in 1940. Edith worked in defense factories during World War II. She and Richard divorced and she later married Art Andrae. After Art\'s death, Edith moved from Hemet, California to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek. Edith was very talented, playing and teaching piano, sculpting in clay, painting in oil and water color, knitting and crocheting. She was an excellent seamstress and made clothes and dance costumes for her daughters. She enjoyed ballroom and square dancing and was also a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader as her children grew up. Edith enjoyed the outdoors and traveling, which she and Art did extensively. She is survived by her sister, Carol Cochrane; sisters-in-law, Vivian Kennedy and Zell Cantrell; her son, Loren Cantrell; her daughters, Judith Park and Catherine Shipps; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on October 3 in the Diablo Room at Rossmoor in Walnut Creek, followed by a reception. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice of the East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Road, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
