Henrietta Carlton Obituary

HENRIETTA LOIS CARLTON Passed away on October 30, 2010 at Air Force Village West, Riverside, California. She was the loving wife of Robert, Lt. Col., USAF, Ret.; the devoted mother of five children, Richard, Stephen, Robert, James and Jane; Grandmother to sixteen grandchildren and Great Grandmother to fifteen Great Grandchildren. Lois was born on July 30, 1924 in Newman, California to parents Karl and Nellie Stoffers. When Lois was very young, her parents moved to Los Banos, California where she went to school. After two years in high school, she went to Salinas, California to take care of her aunt, who was ill, and graduated from Salinas High School two years later. After high school, Lois worked as a secretary in a bank located at Fort Ord when she met and married Robert, who was in the Air Force at that time. While raising her family, Lois accompanied her husband in assignments to Germany, Alaska, and many stateside locations. Lois was an active volunteer. She worked in a senior center helping prepare food for Meals on Wheels and later worked as a volunteer at the March Field Reserve Base canteen, greeting marines who were deploying overseas. She was instrumental in obtaining cookies from the Air Force Village West to give to the Marines while they were waiting to deploy. She also worked at the Village, showing the Village to visitors who were interested in relocating to Air Force Village West. Lois loved to travel and was able to travel extensively on military aircraft with her husband, on a space available basis, where they traveled almost around the world. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10, at the Memorial Chapel at Air Force Village West. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the P-38 Association, P. O. Box 6453, March Air Reserve Base, Riverside, CA 92518.
