Howard Pofahl Obituary

HOWARD JOHN POFAHL Howard passed away peacefully on June 5, 2010, surrounded by his family at home in Riverside, California. Howard was born to John and Rose Pofahl on December 16, 1922. Growing up in Kenosha, Wisconsin Howard attended school and worked the Pofahl family farm. Howard lived in Illinois, South Dakota, and Oregon working various jobs throughout the country before settling finally in Riverside where he worked for Dunham-Bush Corporation for over 25 years. Howard met the love of his life in 1959 on a blind date, and he and Marie spent 49 cherished years together. After a lifetime of hard work and dedication Dad enjoyed 18 years of retirement among the pines of Lake Shastina, California. He enjoyed the Senior\'s Club and served as President of the local Kiwanis Club. Returning to Riverside in 2001, Howard set an example of love and compassion as caretaker and constant companion for his wife. Howard brought joy and happiness to every room he entered. Everyone was welcomed with a rousing chorus of hellos and great hugs. Howard\'s greatest joys were holding his wife, being with his children, and cheering his favorite baseball team, the Angels, on to victory. Whatever life\'s challenges, Howard met each with courage, great strength of character, and an always amiable spirit. Howard loved living his life and left with a great feeling of happiness and fulfillment. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Marie and his siblings, Mabel, Fred, Alice, Irene, Mildred, Charles, and Wesley. He is survived by his son John, daughter\'s Sarah and Theresa, granddaughter Meghan and her husband Grant Bennett, along with his elder sister Ruth Smith and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Services will be held in the chapel at Crestlawn Memorial Park at 11500 Arlington in Riverside on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 10am. All are welcome to attend.

To Sarah and all the family. I just want you all to know that you are in our prayers and thoughts during this time of loss. I also know there is a great celebration in heaven as Howard has joined the rest who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. Death is so painful because life is so precious. Live every moment of your life by the pattern of joy Howard has given you.

June 10, 2010

Dear John, Sarah and Theresa, So sorry to hear of Howard's passing. Your loving tribute of him in the obituary says it all. What a kind and gentle man he was! He was my favorite of all the Pofahl uncles and I don't think I ever saw him with a frown on his face or an unkind word to say of anyone. You had a great father and role model and you were lucky to have him for as long as you did.
I know you will miss him, but concentrate on all the good time you had with him and the lessons he taught you. Julie Pofahl
