Jeannie Torchia Obituary
JEANNIE TORCHIA Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend was born in Lompoc, CA on May 10, 1942 and passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012. Jeannie was a proud resident of Riverside, California, where she and her husband John made their home. She graduated from University Jr. High School and Ramona High School. While in high school Jeannie participated in Young Life. She is a member of The Grove Community Church where she attended church for 30 years. Jeannie's life was dedicated to making the lives of children better. She worked as a librarian at Norte Vista High School and Alcott Elementary School. She later taught preschool at Temple Beth El Nursery School and University of California, Riverside Child Development Center. She volunteered in the Children's League through Riverside Community Hospital Jeannie was a proud member of the NAACP and the Leadership Council for the Southern Poverty Law Center. She was also an active member of the Riverside Mad Hatters, a local Red Hat group. Jeannie enjoyed photography, traveling and spending time with family and friends in her free time. She is survived by her husband, John; her children, Gina (Scott) Drake and son, John along with her grandchildren Isaac, Joshua and Jacob. Jeannie is also survived by her identical twin sister, Jan Sandretto and mother, Juanita Smith. She has a large extended family: Theresa & Murray Gilbert, Michael & Sharon Torchia, Dan & Denise Torchia, Frank Torchia, Rosalie & John Shine, Annette Allison, Maggie & Manuel Azevedo, John Topp, Peggy & Mitch Hill, Dan Smith, and many nieces and nephews. Services for Jeannie Torchia will be held at the Grove Community Church on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11am. Family will be accepting flowers or donations can be made in Jeannie's name to the City of Hope. Arlington Mortuary, Directors (800) 275-4648
