Vickie - You know how fond I was of Jimmie and how much I loved to get under his skin! My fondest memory will be of playing poker with you two and how Jimmie always wanted to play "Jim-Wins", which we just could not allow! He loved you so very much - it was a beautiful thing to witness after 34 years of marriage. I will miss his fake 'gruffness' - because he truly was a gentle giant.

Hi Vicki,

I'm so sorry to read about Jim's passing. Please accept my condolences.

=======================================

I remember Jim's story about how he became a 'vegetarian':

When Jim was about 7 years old, he and his family lived on a farm.

One day, his Mother told him to go outside, catch a chicken and chop its head off so she could cook the chicken for dinner.

Jim went outside and picked up a hatchet but, apparently, he didn't want to do the "evil deed".

Some time later, his Mother looked out of the kitchen window and noticed Jim doing "other" things.

She then went outside and grabbed Jim, the hatchet and the chicken.

She put the chicken on the chopping block and raised the hatchet.

As the blade fell, Jim said the chicken turned its head and looked at him with a panicky "Please, help me!" look in its eye.

After the hatchet had done its job, the chicken ran -- headless -- around the barn-yard for a few minutes.

From that time on, Jim would not eat any meat from any "formerly-living" animal.

======================================

I also remember Jim building many wooden "slotters" in which tax payments were placed before being collected for processing.

=======================================

I enjoyed working with Jim for many years -- and with you for several years. It was a ball!
