Dear Mom,
I just wanted to say thank you for all your advice and wisdom, such as, "many hands make light the work".
I know it was very hard for you to recover from the loss of your older brother, George Hay, when his ship, the USS Bush DD-529 Fletcher Class Destroyer was sunk by two Kamikazes at Okinawa, protecting our brave marines fighting on the beaches. You and George were like twins, with a special language, a special bond that stayed with you your entire life. George's sacrifice for the freedom and peace of our world still hurt you like it happened yesterday. I could not hope to assuage your anguish through the decades, but realized your "therapy" was to bring together the remaining survivors for periodic reunions. In the same vein, you wrote a book about the details of the men, machines, and events aboard the brave fighting ship, the USS Bush. A fine book, copyrighted and printed for all to see. So many grateful veterans expressed their gratitude for your hard work to bring them together. Thank you for the ability to ask any question and get a sincere response. What a loving person. I miss you and Gracie and Dad. I can feel you near. You were such a good teacher. Thank you, Mom. Love, Ken.

Dear Ken and family,
Please accept our condolences. I was deeply saddened to hear of Mary's passing. She was a very special aunt who became a very special friend to me over the years. I will treasure the memory of her and know I will see her again someday. May God bless you all.
Love,
Sally

Dear Mom,
I am so glad to have been your son. You were a father, mother, and friend. You were decent, forthright, and joyous. Your sense-of-humor, especially about the pets (Gracie and Edmund) will be sorely missed and remembered with a happy heart. Thank you for teaching your kids and your "kids" (students) about self-worth and goals. You were already a teacher before graduating from college in your 40's with three kids in tow. It's been interesting to be a part of your life. It's been fun. Love you always. Son Ken.
P.S. I promise to not run through the house with scissors! Or eat glue. Or leave the refrigerator door open. Lest you send me to my room!
Ken
P.P.S.- Dad, "The Old Codger", promises to keep me laughing with his sense-of-humor.
