Sergio DeLuca Obituary

SERGIO BRUNO DeLUCA Sergio Bruno DeLuca was born on March 16,1964 and passed away at the age of 46 on Dec. 23, 2010. He had battled ALS, (aka Lou Gehrig\'s disease) for over 5 years. Yet throughout the entire time of illness, he lived his life with the saying, "NEVER GIVE UP". He is survived by his loving wife, Kelly, (whom he married in 1988), daughter Alyssa (19 years old) and son Frankie (17 years old), all from Corona along with his mother, Tina DeLuca, four sisters, Lucy Rushing, Sonia Liekhus, Norma Bravo and Tina Guss; all from Brea. Sergio grew up in Brea and graduated from Brea Olinda High School in 1982. He moved to Corona in 1997 where he worked in construction as a ceiling contractor. He was very active in his children\'s sports. He was their soccer coach for several years as well as for a few years from his wheelchair. Those who knew Sergio knew he lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time on the soccer field, sometimes, yelling at the referees when they made the wrong call. Even when the disease took his speech from him, he still managed to get his point across to his players. He enjoyed his time with his family, at home or on his many river trips as well as designing and caring for his beautiful back yard. He loved his basketball team the Lakers who he had the pleasure of meeting Kobe Bryant in 2006. His favorite football team is the Chicago Bears. If you knew Sergio, you would know his love for his statues of elephants which he had all around his home. He loved spending time with his dog, Scoobie, who passed away a few years ago. A Celebration of Sergio DeLuca\'s life will be held Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 1:00 PM at St. Angela Merici Church, 575 S. Walnut Ave., Brea, CA 92821. Church\'s phone number is 714-529-6372. Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, an Education Fund has been set up for his children at Wells Fargo Bank 1396 N. Rose Drive, Placentia, CA 92870 in care of Afton Golden at Wells Fargo.
