Stephen Minot Obituary

STEPHEN MINOT Stephen Minot, novelist, short story writer, textbook writer, and teacher, died on December 1, 2010, in Riverside, California, of a stroke. He was 83. Author of three novels, two collections of short stories, and two college textbooks, Minot taught literature and creative writing at Bowdoin College, Trinity College (Connecticut), and the University of California, Riverside, where he served as Chair of the Department of Creative Writing. Minot was born in Boston, graduated from Harvard University in 1951, and received a master\'s degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1955. Minot is survived by his wife, Virginia, a Riverside printmaker. He also leaves three sons and their wives: Reid with Marian Schwartz, Nicholas with Lisa Daniels, and Chrystos with Tara Goldin, as well as six grandchildren. A service will be held at the Culver Center of the Arts in Riverside on December 27 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Those of us fortunate enough to have shared a portion of our summers with Steve and Ginnie will long remember Steve's hard work and generosity to us all - thank you, Steve, we will miss having you "up at the farmhouse." With heartfelt condolences to Virginia and his family.
