William R. Mitsch Obituary
WILLIAM R. MITSCH William "Bill" Mitsch passed away peacefully at the age of 86 in Lakeway, Texas on October 18, 2013. A longtime resident of Riverside, Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Claudine Mitsch, who passed away in 2006. He also lost his second wife, Barbara Jones, in 2011. He is survived by his daughter Janet Harris (Tom) and son Bob Mitsch (Toni Ann), as well as his grandchildren Austin and Aubrey. Born in Glendale, CA, Bill graduated from Glendale HS and later Pepperdine University where he was an all conference basketball player and MVP of the 1949 team. He moved to Riverside in 1951 to pursue a teaching career and met his future wife, Claudine, on the first day of school. They were engaged in a week and married 3 months later. Bill spent 38 years in the Riverside School district as a teacher, coach and later as an administrator. Always a natural athlete, Bill excelled all sports but probably enjoyed tennis more than any other teaming with Gene Hughes to win dozens of local and regional tournaments during the 1970's. Bill was a loving husband, caring father and faithful friend. He enjoyed and appreciated life's simple things like good conversation, card games, laughter and a great piece of rhubarb pie. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of Bill's life will take place at 2pm on November 16, 2013 at Wesley Methodist Church in Riverside.
