Jack Oakes Obituary
SAN BERNARDINO JACK B. OAKES 46, was born on Dec. 27, 1963, at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, and passed away on April 17, 2010, in Glamis pursing one of his many passions. A third-generation native of San Bernardino, Jack graduated from San Bernardino High School where he met his life-long sweetheart Judy. He attended Humboldt State before graduating from Cal State University, San Bernardino, with a degree in liberal arts, and he received his teaching credential from the University of Redlands. While teaching at Emmerton Elementary School, he received his master\'s degree in education administration from Azusa Pacific. He went on to serve as vice-principal at Davidson Elementary. Jack then moved to Ramona-Alessandro Elementary where he was a loved and respected principal for the past eight years, working in a building that was built by his great-grandfather, Martin Green. With deep roots in the community, Jack served as a coach, board member, and vice-president at Newmark Little League. He was a member of Native Sons of the Golden West, and helped found the Cajon Aquatics Scholarship in 2005, now named in his honor. He dedicated his career and life to children, family and his large circle of friends. The Oakes\' house has always been "event central," with the family hosting birthday and anniversary parties, holiday and sports gatherings, and work and school functions - all anchored by Jack\'s lavish and creative cooking. His family and friends called Jack "Our MacGyver" because there was never a project too big, too technical, or beyond his huge talent. He is survived by his wife of 23 years and soul-mate for 30 years, Judy; sons Adam, Casey, and Keenan; parents Jim and Claudia Oakes; brother Andrew Oakes and his wife Christy; father and mother-in law Ron and Mary Theis, brother-in-law Ron Theis and his wife Kelly; four nephews, Soren, Curren, Cory, and Kevin; many cousins, aunts and uncles, and a huge circle of friends who continue to pour out their love and support for the family. Judy and the family hope you will be able to join them for Jack\'s memorial celebration 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2010, at the San Bernardino High School auditorium, 1850 N. E Street, San Bernardino. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Jack Oakes Cajon Aquatics Scholarship Fund, c/o San Bernardino City Unified School District, Attn: Communications, 777 N. F Street, San Bernardino, CA 92410, or the Jack Oakes Fund, American Sand Association, 11419 Daybreak Trail, Moreno Valley, CA 92557-9907.
