SVEN OSCAR YOUNGQUIST Oscar was born on March 25, 1928 in San Diego, California, the son of Sven Oscar and Ranghild Maria Youngquist. While a child his mother went with him to attend The Salvation Army Corps. As a teenager, he attended Camp Redwood Glen where he worked as the lifeguard and met the love of his life, Lucille; on September 17, 1948 they became lifetime partners. Oscar and Lucille have three children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Roy Oliver has been married to Nora Parton Youngquist for 38 years; they have one daughter, Stacy, and one son, Brad. Alice Lucille has been married to Brian Pockett for 39 years and they have three sons, Jeffrey is married to Trina and they have two sons, Caleb and Noah, and one daughter, Katelyn; Michael is married to Margaret and they have one daughter, Madison; Shawn is married to Krissy and they have one daughter, Hannah, and one son, Jaden. Deborah Ann has been married to David Youngquist for 34 years; they have one son, Christopher, and one daughter, Diana. In 1951 at the age of 23 Oscar along with Lucille joined the Intercessors Session of cadets at the Salvation Army Training College in San Francisco and were commissioned a year later. They served as Corps Officers, on both Divisional and Territorial staff, and commanded two divisions, Alaska and Oregon. Oscar was active in the National Society of Fundraising having served as president in San Diego. He was also active in Rotary Club and became a Paul Harris Fellow. He earned a Master of Theology from the American Divinity School. His consecrated commitment to The Salvation Army, to his family and people everywhere is surpassed only by the depth of his intimacy with God. "Coming home, coming home, Never more to roam Open wide thine arms of love, Lord, I'm coming home" Oscar's family will receive guests for a time of Visitation on Thursday, May 3, 2012, from 9-11AM at the Salvation Army Chapel, 40270 Los Alamos Rd, Murrieta, CA. Funeral Services will begin at 11AM, same location, with a reception to immediately follow. Committal Services will be Friday, May 4, 2012, 11AM at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, CA.
