Chester Arthur Reed Jr. Obituary
CHESTER ARTHUR REED, JR. Age 98, passed away on February 7, 2013 at Veterans Administration Hospital, Loma Linda. He was born on October 27, 1914 in Bridgeport, Ohio to Chester Arthur Reed, Sr. and Flossy Reed. He served in the Air Force from 1935 to 1972; retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He was a high-altitude pilot instructor in the Hyperbaric Altitude Chamber; Korean War: stationed in Okinawa, Japan; Cold War: stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany; was stationed briefly in Iran, training pilots in the Shah's air force He was married to Iva Katherine Condrey from 1944 until her death in 2006. His son Byron was born in 1945 and his son Richard in 1951. The family moved from Houston to Riverside, California in 1958. As a boy, Chester repaired Model-T Fords in his father's workshop in St. Clairsville, Ohio until he enlisted at age 21. In 1972, he left 25 years of service in the U. S. Air Force to work for the U. S. Postal Service, retiring in 2010 at age 95 after 37 years of uninterrupted service (the oldest postal employee in U. S. history). His interests included cars, motorcycles, and golf. He is survived by his younger son, Richard Reed of Riverside, having lost his older son, Byron, to cancer in 2003. He is also survived by his younger brother, David. Services for Chester Arthur Reed will be held Thursday, February 21, 11:45 AM, at the National Cemetery on Van Buren Ave. (just off the 215 freeway in Riverside), Staging Area 4.
