Michael Starling Snuffin Obituary
MICHAEL STARLING SNUFFIN Mike was born in El Centro, California on December 2, 1933 and passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2013 at the age of 79. He was surrounded by his loving family. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Margaret Snuffin. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years Denise; three daughters Lisa Snuffin, Vicki Snuffin, Dana Snuffin-Medeiros (Mike); grandchildren Bailey and Max Medeiros, sister Shirley Mobley (Bill); cousins Sheila Lewis (Bill), Tom Fitzgerald; sister-in-law Susan Owen; uncle to many nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. Mike graduated from Gardena High School, El Camino Junior College, and California State University Long Beach. Mike served in the Navy as a Dental Technician. He moved his family to Riverside in 1965 to work for the County of Riverside as a personnel analyst. In 1972, he was appointed to the position of Riverside County Personnel Director. He served that position until he retired in 1986. He was known in courthouse circles as "The County's Zookeeper" because of his large collection of rare birds, animals, and snakes. He loved collecting animals with his daughters. Mike also enjoyed camping and fishing in the High Sierras with his family. Mike was a loving, devoted husband, and father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Life was never dull when Mike was around. His love of animals was apparent when he visited the San Diego Zoo, his favorite place on earth. In lieu of flowers consider a donation in his memory to www.sandiegozoo.org/donate/. A celebration of his life will be held at the Riverside Elks Lodge, 6166 Brockton Avenue, Riverside, CA 92506 on Saturday, February 23 at 4:00PM.
