Hal was a 50 year member of the Lions Club. He was also the founding president of Habitat for Humanity and a member of the Knights of Columbus. All of these organizations and his construction business have contributed to the greater good of hundreds of people and families in the area. A few of the social clubs Hal was part of for leisure included the Riverside-Corona Model T Club and a 5th Wheel Camping group known as the "5th Wheelers". Hal and his beautiful bride of 58 years, Martie Brown, are devout members of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Together they raised 3 children: Steve Brown, Cathy Diepholz and Jeannie Cordova, and he lived to see his 8 grandchildren raised up into adults and 8 great-grandchildren born unto them.
