Betty L. Shea Obituary
BETTY L. SHEA Age 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed from this world on June 3, 2013. Betty and J. Jack Shea (1920-1995) first came to Riverside in 1951 when Jack was stationed at March AFB and decided Riverside was the place to raise their growing family. Betty was the last of eight children born to Elmer and Ella (nee Hamann) Anderson; she and her twin sister Ellen Bachman were born in Los Angeles. Her family moved to a farm outside Merced in 1928. After she graduated from Merced H.S. in 1942, she moved back to Los Angeles where she worked for Security Bank. She and Jack married on June 1, 1943. During his 21 year career in the USAF, they often moved, living in Lakewood, Victorville, Fresno and Los Angeles, CA, Missoula and Anaconda, MT, Salt Lake City and Clearfield, UT, and St. John's in Newfoundland, Canada. In 1961 she returned to work at Security Pacific Bank, retiring in 1986. She was able to travel often with family and friends throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, Europe and Morocco. After Jack's death, she moved to Daly City, CA and lived with her oldest sister, Bea Huggard. She returned to southern California in 2009, moving to Laguna Woods where she could be close to her three sons. At Laguna Woods, she met wonderful new neighbors, gardened, supported worthy causes, stayed current on local, national and world events, cheered at her great granddaughter's sporting events, and joined the parish of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the Scandinavian Club. Her inner beauty radiates still. She is survived by four children, Marilyn (Gary Stonum) Shea-Stonum of Bath, Ohio, Michael (Su) Shea of Mission Viejo, Daniel Shea of Newport Beach, Patrick (Deborah) Shea of Riverside; six grandchildren, Matthew (Kirsten Birkedal) Shea, Lee (Brittany Stevens) Stonum, Kevin Shea, Kelly (Brendon) O'Neill, Allison (Kevin) Martin and Ryan Shea; three great grandchildren, Kennedy Stonum, Jack and Hayden Shea; her twin sister Ellen Bachman; 12 nieces and nephews. Predeceasing her were her beloved husband J. Jack Shea, her eldest son John J. ("Jack") Shea III, sisters Bea Huggard, June Tate, Doris Lehner, brothers Gilbert, John and Elmer Anderson. She was sustained by the love of this large clan and did all that she could to return that love. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 9am on Monday, June 10, 2013 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 24252 El Toro Blvd., Laguna Woods, CA 92637. The burial service will be at the Riverside National Cemetery, stage 6, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518 on Wednesday, June 12, at 10:30am. A celebration of her life will follow at the Victoria Club, 2521 Arroyo Dr., Riverside, CA 92506.
