1926 - 2013 | Obituary Condolences
WILLIAM "AL" ALBERT KONERSMAN Feb. 10, 1926 - Oct. 22, 2013 We mourn the passing of our husband, father, and friend, Al Konersman, a man with boundless enthusiasm and optimism. Together with his beloved wife of 64 years, Rose Mary, Al led a full life marked particularly by community service. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Al served in the Army Air Corps, earned bachelor's and master's degrees in aeronautics, and worked at McDonnell Aircraft where he met Rose Mary. As a manager at Honeywell, he transferred to Minnesota and earned the Distinguished Engineering Achievement in 1967 for developing the Helmet Sight System used by pilots in the Vietnam War and beyond. In 1970, Al moved his family to California, became a real estate broker, and with Rose Mary, founded Spectrum Real Estate. Al was president of the Pomona Valley Board of Realtors, the La Verne Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary Club before moving to Hemet. While in Hemet, Al served meals to the homeless, was church usher, and tutored adults in reading for 8 years. Al enjoyed writing fiction, making day trips to local sites, discussing politics, watching football, and going to movies and plays. Al is survived by his wife, Rose Mary; children Bill Konersman, Janet Katz, and Judy Macauley; granddaughters Marissa Eyon and Wendy Clark; and great-grandchildren Jin, Elyse, and William Eyon. The family thanks the staff at Devonshire Care Center, particularly CNA Chen, and Cornerstone Hospice, especially Billie Baker and Jon Wooley, RN. A memorial mass will be held Mon., Oct. 28, 12:00 pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 26340 Soboba St Hemet, CA 92544. A reception will follow. Al's body was donated to the Loma Linda School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Al's name to Adult Literacy Services, Hemet Public Library.
