Hey Virgil Jeff Young passed away this year! We gave you that nickname when we lived on Bandini. Remember when we were at Willow Beach and Rick Francis wouldn't let you sit in his boat? It was along time ago my friend. I never laughed so hard as the times we had together and I'll never forget. See you when my journey is over buddy.

Haven't stopped thinking about Mark, since hearing of his passing. Trying to remember conversations, & reasons he made me smile & laugh. Wishing I could turn back time. I do hope he knows he remains in the hearts of all the lives he touched. Hoping he can read these messages, & know how much he is missed by everyone, who was so blessed to have known him.

I just found out about Mark's passing, several years ago. I met him in ceramics class back in 1983, at Cal State San Bdno. Great guy, fun personality, & gifted at ceramics! I remember drinking Budweiser beer a few times with him at the school pub. So glad he became a teacher, & am sure he was well loved. I was so sad to hear he passed at such a young age, as he had so much more to offer people in this life time. I cried when I heard the news of his passing. I believe he is an angel now watching over all who loved him so much! I often wondered over the years if he ever still remembered me, as I never forgot him!

I had no idea that Mark had passed and I'm heartbroken to know he longer graces this earth. The last we spoke he called to let me know his amazing sister had passed away after an illness took her far too soon. I loved the entire family and still do! I literally googled him last night as mom had just come across some pictures she'd saved (so many of mine have been lost during moves, basement flooods etc.) and I thought I'd share them with him.

Mark has a spirit that is almost beyond description; his kindness and generosity live in my heart. Sooo many great memories: Making sausage gravy and biscuits for breakfast, waterskiing at 6 a.m., flying his planes w mom on her visits, weekends w his sister and brother in-law and those two amazing children, whom i think of so so often. (All those thrilling hairdos!) Going to his talented mom's plays, his dad napping w my kitty cat George and feeding him cantaloupe, thanksgiving and Christmas dinners w his brother and entire family I finally had to accept the end of the bathrobe from Aunt Ruth... so kind everyone! All the while Mark happy & glueing us all together! I know George and he are hanging out and I send my love into the universe to the whole family,

I am sorry to hear about Mark's passing. I can imagine the sense of loss–the gratitude for his life and sadness without him in the world. We lost another Vergeront just recently; my father John passed away March 28th. My condolences to you, Elaine, and your family.

Mark taught my oldest daughter, Nicole, ceramics. We moved to Riverside from Ontario, Canada when Nicole was in 11th grade. It wasn't an easy adjusting to a new high school, but she loved ceramics with 'Verge'. He made her feel welcome and special at her new school. Saddened to hear of his passing. Condolences to the family.

One of my best friend's for over 30 years. I still cannot believe that he is gone. We met in college at CSUSB and the memories of those days I will always be grateful for. We stayed in contact over the years and went on many camping and fishing excursions locally and up North. We also shared our love for the arts and especially ceramics. My heart goes out to all of his family and his students. Thank you for being my friend and I will miss you tremendously!

Still use every day, 15 years later - to hold Q-tips.

Mark and I were best friends in those formative years after high school. I remember fondly tapping on Verg's window at 5 AM in the morning to wake him up so we could make the drive to the beach to go surfing. The look on his face was priceless as Mark was more of a night person! We shared many great surf days together. MArk also was an early adopter of skateboard technonolgy and actually desighed what would have been Riverside's first skatepark back in the early 80's, right when skateboarding was just taking off in popularity. Mark was always on the bleeding edge of new trends, especially in art. I still have many of his "discards" from his ceramic experiments that I truly cherish and they woud be considered a fine art collectible to many, but Mark always had such high standards for his work. I hope you are surfing some 8 foot 36th street jetty surf inheaven I love you Mark. I think God is blessed to have you with Him. You were always one of His special projects.

I worked with Mark for many years at Poly High School. I always looked forward to seeing him and his big smile. He always had a good story or a good joke to share. He was easy going and truly cared about his students. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to the family for their loss. Verg, I miss you my friend

To the Vergeront family, I can not tell you how much we will miss our "Vergie". Verg nicknamed my son "Griffie-Sweetie" and I worked on the staff with him. We had so much fun! My son added the wheels to the "toilet duck" and they would race it in the hallway. We will never forget the memories made with Mark at Poly. Know that he was loved!

Verg was one of the best coworkers you could want. He would come into the Koala Korner fix his own breakfast, write his bill and file it in the charge box. I always looked forward to seeing him in the morning. I guess we were in charge of the 700 wing even if we did not sign up for the duty. He would even treat me to his Del Taco egg burrito in the morning. He was a true friend that was always looking forward to the summer and his fishing trips. I will miss him, his friendship and caring for all he meet. There is a void in all of us who knew him. Our prayers are with his mom and brother.

I am so so sad that I no longer have my buddy in the ceramics room to chat with when I go back to Poly. Mark Vergeront, God broke the mold after He made you. Hope you find Bigfoot on the other side of the curtain. I will always cherish the years we taught together at Riverside Poly High School, where you made a huge difference in the lives of many, many students.

Mr. Verg was more than a teacher at Poly High, he was a friend to me. We shared stories about our camping adventures, and fishing excursions. I only knew Mr. Verg for a short time, but am glad I got to meet him, and become friends. He was a great man, and will be truly missed. Rest in Peace Mr. Verg.

Mark you were a good friend. Had so much fun with you at Poly when we were in High School. You could always make me smile. I remember the David Bowie Albums you would leave on my doorstep and we would discuss for hours what the lyrics could mean. You were my daughter and her friend's favorite teacher. Rest In Peace Mark. You will be missed by all that you knew and taught and especially by me. You will always hold a special place in my heart.
