Ruben L. Borjas, 74, of Conroe, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2012. He passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by family. Ruben was born April 17, 1938 in Nursery, Texas. He was the son of Francisco M. Borjas and Virginia Luera Borjas. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and brother Nicolas (died in infancy). He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Angelita S. Borjas, and his four children: Sandra K. Elsik and husband Rick of Anchorage, Alaska; Ruben L. Borjas, Jr, of Conroe, Texas; Ramona L. Smidt and husband Gary of Conroe, Texas; and Rebecca B. Pickett and husband John of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Kristen R. Smith and her husband Ryan; Gary W. Smidt, Jr.; Collin M. Smidt; Frank T. Smidt; Elizabeth G. Pickett; Addison R. Elsik; Trinity E. Elsik and William L. Elsik; and his great-grandchild Liam L. Smith. He is also survived by his sisters Elvira B. Nava of Victoria, Texas, and Ercilia Reeves of Memphis, Tennessee.

Ruben served in the United States Air Force in Florida, Wyoming, Spain and North Africa from 1956 to 1960. He moved to Houston in 1964 and began working with 7-Up Company. In April 1965 he married Angelita Sanchez of Austin, Texas. In 1968, he began working with the Hughes Tool Company in Houston and retired in 1999 from Baker Hughes in The Woodlands, Texas. From 1994 to 2005, Ruben drove a school bus for Pearland ISD, and continued service for Willis ISD until his retirement in October 2007.

Ruben enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed being outdoors. He was an organizer of his family reunion and enjoyed sharing humorous stories.

Ruben was a member of St. Helen's Catholic Church in Pearland, Texas until he moved to Conroe where he joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

A Rosary and Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 starting at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 109 North Frazier St., Conroe, Texas 77301.
