Carol was born Dec. 25, 1930 in Calpet, Wyo. Being the daughter of railroad engineer her family moved frequently as a young girl. Eventually they settled in LaGrande, Ore. Carol attended high school in LaGrande then pursued a nursing degree and became a registered nurse in 1952, after which she began working at St. Joseph's Hospital in La Grande. During that time Robert Berry returned from a mission for the LDS church in February of 1953. The couple met and were married in March in the Logan, Utah temple. In 1958, the Berrys with their four children moved to Northway, Alaska where Carol helped with medical care and volunteered her services while her husband fought fires for BLM. In 1960 Bob and Carol homesteaded a 160-acre parcel near Delta Junction. Three additional children joined the family during their 13-year stay on the homestead. The family returned to Oregon in 1974 and Carol worked for the Pioneer Nursing Home and the State of Oregon before retiring in 1994.

She also served as a Temple Worker in the Boise Temple for six years.
In addition to her varied and continued church service, she was also a hospice helper and was involved with Meals on Wheels.
Carol had many hobbies, the most prevalent of which were cake decorating, sewing, teaching, hunting, fishing and bowling. She particularly enjoyed sporting activities and made great effort to attend sporting events of her children and grand-children. She has logged many hours in the bleachers watching; wrestling, basketball, baseball, football, running and other activities.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, William Sherman and Vernal Ruth (Pate) Shinsel, three brothers and numerous aunts and uncles.
