Memorial services will be held at a later date in Kauai, Hawaii.
Matty was born Aug. 12, 1960 in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. He served 4 1/2 years in the U.S. Army. He moved to Alaska in 2006 and lived in Seward, Anchorage, Palmer and then Kenai. While in Kenai, he worked for Love INC.
Matty loved fishing, hiking and camping.
"My daddy was a great man with a huge heart. He gave all he could without expecting anything in return, but a smile." His daughter, April, wrote.
"His presence will surely be missed. The little thing he did everyday for those around him was much appreciated. Matty touched so many lives with his big heart and never-ending kindness," his girlfriend, Amanda, wrote.
Matty is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, April "Lani" Kutney of Wasilla, and Shantel and Jamie Castille of Breaux, La.; sons and daughters-in-law, Kaui Samson of Wasilla, Matthew and Keahi Samson of Anahola, Hawaii, and Justin and Felicia Kalaluhi of Vail, Colo.; grandchildren, Quintin, Elijah, Orion, Myles and Stone of Wasilla, Hayli, Kaila and Zhayn of Breaux, La., and Makanoe and Kai'ale of Kauai, Hawaii; sisters, Simona and Pearl of Oahu, Hawaii; brothers, Junior and Selso of Kauai, Hawaii; numerous nieces and nephews; and his girlfriend, Amanda Barnett of Kenai.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
