Soldotna resident Allen Dale Grant, 57, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 30, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Mile 15 K-Beach Rd. A reception will follow.

Allen was born Feb. 9, 1961, in New Orleans, La., the first child of Daniel J. and Janet Irene (Sundberg) Grant, Sr. He grew up in Louisiana, Kodiak and Kenai. The son of a commercial fisherman, Allen spent summers in Kodiak as a crew member for his dad on the F/V Schones Leben and F/V Cajun, from the time he was 11 years old. He was a fulltime skiff man at age 13.

He graduated from Kenai Central High School in 1979 and was a member of the State Championship Wrestling team, placing 3rd in his weight class. Out of high school, he worked on a seismograph crew, then worked in the oilfield in various positions.

Allen was a Christian, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and had no doubt he was Heaven-bound.

Allen was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Grant, grandparents, Rev. W.D. and Victoria (Fussell) Grant, and Rudy and Jenny (Pestrikoff) Sundberg; uncles, Rudy Jr. and Herman Sundberg, Charlie Miller, Quinto Denato, Richie Hartman, Tommy Lawson, Thayer McDaniel and Cecil Swayze, aunts, Ellen Fuller, Anita Hartman, Lillian Miller, Diane Grant and Amy McDaniel, great-niece, Alexandria Grant, as well as numerous cousins.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Daniel and Betsy Grant of Kenai; brothers, Frankie, James and wife, Audrey, Larry and Danny Grant; sister, Amy, stepsister, Hannah Wade-Sandlin and husband, Jason, stepbrother, Jesse Wade and wife, Katy; nephews, Mathew, Jacob and Andrew Grant, Braden, Jerrik and James Wade; nieces, Janet Hillyer and husband, Calder, Kaylee Lazaro and husband, Josh, Joanna and Victoria Grant, Annika Sandlin; great-niece and nephews, Hope and Carter Hillyer, and Zeke Lazaro; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
