Soldotna resident, Mrs. Barbara June (Nelson) Bokovoy, 73, went home to meet the Lord, Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016 after a lengthy courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016 at Peninsula Memorial Chapel & Crematory, 5839 Kenai Spur Highway – Kenai, AK. Pastor Corbie Cross will be officiating. She will be inurned at the Rosehill Memorial Cemetery in Minot, North Dakota at a later date.
She was born Nov. 18, 1943 to Edward and Eunice Nelson in Kenmare, North Dakota. She met and married the love of her life on Feb. 20, 1960 in Minot, North Dakota. They had three children, Brenda, Kimberly, and Troy.
The whole family moved to Soldotna in 1982. Barbara spent many years as a cook and baker, working in the dietary department at Trinity Medical Hospital in Minot, North Dakota and later at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna.
She was well known for her excellent baking and cooking skills by many. She had a love for gardening, dancing and reading, but most of all, love for God, which she instilled in all her family. She was a member of the Star of the North Lutheran Church in Kenai. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Sylvia Kilbourn; granddaughter, Amber Zuck and great-granddaughter, Riley Zuck.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters Brenda (Walter) Zuck and Kimberly Bokovoy-Cowie; son Troy Bokovoy; grandchildren, Robby (Angela) Zuck, Ryan (Ashley) Cowie and Katelyn Cowie; great-grandchildren Peyton Cowie, Cameron Cowie, Ryder Zuck and Addison Zuck; and brother LeRoy Nelson.
