Blanche Reed, 84, left this world Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Heritage Place in Soldotna.

She was born Feb. 6, 1934 to Ruben and Edith Tegoseak in the Colville River region on Alaska's North Slope. They were reindeer herders as well as trappers and lived a subsistence lifestyle. She was one of 11 children. Though she later embraced the modern world and its conveniences, this period of her youth was firmly embedded in her memories.

The family put down roots and lived in Barrow where Blanche attended school and received her eighth-grade education. In the early 1950s they re-located to the Fairbanks region, one of the first lnupiaq families to do so. Blanche worked as a waitress at the Model Cafe and Co-Op in Fairbanks and later as a Housekeeper at the Westmark Hotel in Fairbanks and at various restaurants in Anchorage. She was an excellent seamstress producing parkas, costumes, dresses and various clothes for loved ones. She kept herself and her attire smartly pressed, keeping up with fashion and making sure her appearance was proper. Camping, fishing, crocheting, berry picking, singing and dancing were all activities she enjoyed with family and friends; planting and growing flowers was her passion. She stayed busy.

By the age of 30, Blanche brought eight children into this world starting with Martha Jane Tegoseak (D), William Blackman Jr. (Elizabeth), Nora Leavitt Snowball (Harold), Michael Dean Riley, Steven Lee Riley (D), Rose Marie Clift (Lee), Robert Jon Clift and Edna Lynn Gerke (Keith).

Blanche had a deep and abiding faith with our Creator and attended services at the First Presbyterian Church, 547 7th Avenue in Fairbanks. Services will be held at this location with a visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 16. Reverend David Moody will be giving a eulogy and a luncheon will be held on premises afterwards.

Interment will be at Birch Hill Cemetery along with the cremains of her late husband Cecil Lynn Reed at a date yet to be determined.

A special thank you to all of the fine loving Caregivers she had over the years and for the treatment from those at Heritage Place.

So, we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 1 John 4:16
