Lifelong Soldotna resident Byron Ross, 70, passed away at home Tuesday June 20, 2018. He was surrounded by family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on July 2 at Peninsula Grace, 44175 K-Beach Rd. at 6 p.m. with a potluck-style dinner to follow.

Byron was born Feb. 15 1948 in Red Bluff California. Byron's parents moved to Alaska in 1950 living thoughout the state before settling in Soldotna in 1963. After attending Kenai High School, he served in the United States Army, 554th Engineer Battalion from 1967 to 1970 in Vietnam and Germany.

Byron started his own construction company and was the owner operator of Ross Services for over 40 years on the Kenai Peninsula. He never was one to stop working and always found a balance in the fact that he loved what he was doing. He truly never worked a day because he loved running equipment and always taking pride in a job well done. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles through the years and riding with friends and family. The later part of his semi-retired life was spent between Soldotna and Pahrump, Nevada, riding motorcycles with friends.

Byron adored spending time with his children and grandchildren, passing on the values and knowledge he held. They will certainly be better people for having loved him and the lessons he gave them. Byron loved hosting many barbecues with family and friends through the years at his shop. He always made sure to invite everyone and celebrated life at those gatherings. Everyone that attended those gatherings never left hungry, always happy, and to which he felt the utmost pride in.

Byron cared deeply for his family and it showed every day of his life. He was grounded in the fact he had many people counting on him for advice, love and cherishment. His thoughts and counsel were sought after by many in the family and with many throughout the peninsula. People would show up to his office in his shop and want to discuss everything under the sun, from mundane daily activities to business advice. Any input he had wasn't taken lightly and will be missed by all.

Byron leaves behind his children Raymond Ross and daughter in-law Mariah, grandchildren Adelynn, Reese and Quinn; daughter Flerron Ross, grandchildren Bladen and Sytara; his brothers Richard Ross and sister in-law Gayle; Dwight Ross and sister in-law Launie; sister Vickie Toliver and brother in-law Steve, along with many nieces and nephews who will remember their uncle with love in his heart for them all.

He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Nita Ross; sister Nita Conrad; aunts Ruth Ross and Ramona Ross.
