Soldotna resident, Cheryl Ann Hibbert, 63, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 in Anchorage.

A memorial service is planned for early spring.
Cheryl was born on August 18, 1949 to her late parents, Laverne Beatrice and Charles Edward Hibbert in Seattle. She moved to Alaska in 1978 to work as an aluminum welder on the slope. After settling in Anchorage, she returned to school to become a Certified Ophthalmic Technician. She worked many years with Dr. Edward Crouch of Ophthalmic Associates and also Dr. Marvin Grendahl. Many people knew her as the part time bartender at the Old Office Lounge. She was known for her huge smile and generous heart, and loved by all who met her.
Cheryl was an avid gardener and mask maker. Among her many talents, she often wrote vivid stories about her Alaskan adventures, read by her many e-mail friends and relatives. Cheryl was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her nieces and nephews dearly loved their "Aunt Sherry."
Cheryl is survived by her long-time sweet heart, Stewart Mathis; her older brother, Charles Thomas Hibbert; younger sister, Charlene Cooper; niece, Tammy Quan; nephew, Whiling Quan; grandnephews, Joshua Robbins, and Jeremiah Robbins; grandniece, Mary Robbins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion Auxiliary, Jack Henry Unit 1, P.O. Box 92747, Anchorage, AK 99509.
