Soldotna resident Doris V. Venhuizen, 66, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Alder Grove Assisted Living in Homer.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Christian Community Church, 3838 Bartlett St., Homer. Pastor Steve Ristow will officiate. She will be laid to rest with her husband 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery in Anchorage.

Doris was born June 28, 1951, in Port Graham to Ralph and Nadia (Anahonak) Ukatish. She lived in Port Graham and moved to Anchorage in 1973, where she eventually worked in student nutrition for the Anchorage School District. She retired in 2013.

Doris enjoyed fishing on the Kenai River.

Her daughter writes: "Mom loved to fish and socialize. She battled nasal cancer since 2015. She was a strong mother, wife and friend, who was always laughing and telling stories. She will be greatly missed. She is now back with her loving husband and no longer in pain."

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Venhuizen, in 2004.

She is survived by her daughter, Kera Venhuizen, of Soldotna.
