Gail "Papa" Gear Obituary
Gail "Papa" Gear, 79, died peacefully in his home on Funny River Road, Soldotna, Alaska on Friday, May 11, 2018 with his loving companion, Clarice Jurrens, at his side along with his beloved shih tzu dogs, Mia and Matte.

A memorial will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel, 5839 Kenai Spur Hwy., Kenai. A celebration of life reception will be 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 21, at 6901 Carline Place, Anchorage.

He was born January 24, 1939 in Bernalillo, New Mexico. He moved his growing family to Alaska in the 1960s. He supported his family in the construction industry as a home builder. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, snow machines, ATVs, puzzles and country western music. He enjoyed quality time with the Funny River community folks. Friends and family were always welcome at his cabin.

He was a very generous, gentle and caring man. He instilled a great work ethic in his kids. He was a very knowledgeable angler and hunter and enjoyed the Alaska outdoors. He always offered financial support to his kids.

Gail was preceded in death by his mother, Jettie Lou Gear, his father, Claude Garlin Gear, and his sister, Archiann Chambers.

He is survived by his sister, Jettie Eloise McCoy of Blacksburg, Va.; his children, Pam Anderson of Anchorage, Robbin and Loren Jacobsen of Anchorage, Kathy and Steve Hicks-Morgan of Riverdale, Ga., and Bryan and Cristi Gear of Anchorage; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
