Longtime Alaskan and Soldotna resident George C. Martin, 77, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at home from a cardiac arrest.

A celebration of his life will be 6 p.m. Monday, May 14, at Peninsula Grace Brethren Church on Kalifornsky Beach Road. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Spruce Grove Memorial Park in Kasilof. Pastor Justin Franchino will officiate. George was a member of the Peninsula Grace Brethren Church, Republican Party of Alaska, Alaska Right to Life and A.O.P.A. (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association).

His family writes, "George first and foremost loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved his wife and family, and he expressed it in so many ways. He provided his family with years of memories of camping at Dolly Varden Lake. George loved road trips, traveling in his camper-trailer with family in Alaska and the Lower 48, and going to the Alaska State Fair every fall.

"He was a strong advocate for the unborn, working tirelessly on pro-life causes and drawing us into his efforts so that his children all have a deep and profound respect for human life.

"George had his private pilot's license and also held a commercial rating. He did communication for the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline beginning in 1975 with his company Trans Alaska Communications. He was a board member of this corporation that he helped to start. In 1985, George founded Communications Alaska in Soldotna. As owner and CEO, he built this small communications contracting company into a business that services Alaskans statewide. He has enjoyed a wonderful working relationship with GCI, the State of Alaska, and so many other wonderful commercial and residential customers."
