Soldotna resident Louise O'Guinn went home to be with her Lord on June 8, 2013. She died in Soldotna of natural causes. She was 90.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jun 12, 2013, at Soldotna Baptist Church located at 223 E. Redoubt with a reception immediately following.
Graveside services will be held in the Garden of Humility of Mt. Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, Calif. on Jun 19, 2013 at 10 a.m.
Louise was born in Plainview, Texas on Feb 9, 1923, the daughter of Ella (Sanders) and Victor Peacock and was the oldest of five siblings: Jake, Lee, Curtis and Lena (Manley).
Louise met her husband, Roy Thomas O'Guinn, at a carnival and they married Dec. 15, 1938 in Spur, Texas. In 1946 they moved their family to California where Roy worked for the railroad and Louise was a homemaker.
"Her greatest joy in life was her family and she was an amazing wife and loving mother to her seven children. Filled with compassion and interest in others, Louise made friends easily and maintained contact with many through the years. Louise was a cake decorator and Avon lady for many years. She had a love for sewing, millinery, hat making, flower arranging, arts and crafts, cooking and gardening. After her husband's death, Louise moved to Soldotna in 1988 to be near her children and grandchildren. After a stroke in 2001, Louise, through her faith in the Lord, never gave up. She never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future – even through countless setbacks. She has been a testament to many who also suffer physical ailments. Louise became a member of Soldotna Baptist Church upon her arrival in Alaska and continued to be an active member until her death. She was loved dearly by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends," the family wrote.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband Roy on Oct. 23, 1985 in Citrus Heights, CA; son Arvil "Gene" on Jun 7, 2001 in Eldorado, CA; son Roy Dean on Jul 17, 2009 in Granite Bay, CA; and, all four of her siblings.
Louise is survived by her sons, Elvin "Al" (Kathy) of Soldotna, Kenneth "Wayne" (Terrie) of Spokane, Washington, George (Shelley) of Soldotna, Gayle (Robert) Starbard of Juneau and Cynthia (Dennis) Balser of Soldotna. She leaves behind 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and her dear friends, Margaret and Manny Marsh of Soldotna.
