Sterling resident Ms. Mary Bailey Barrickman, 82, died Friday, June 1, 2012 at Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage with her family and friends by her side.
Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012 at The Abundant Life Assembly Of God Church in Sterling, with a potluck to follow. Pastor David Arestad will be officiating.
Ms. Barrickman was born December 17, 1929 in Noatak, Alaska. She has lived in Alaska most of her life. She has lived in many places in Alaska to include; Fairbanks, Barrow, Holy Cross, Clam Gulch, Kenai and Sterling. She was also an Air Force wife so she lived in several other places such as, Florida, South Carolina, Japan, Ohio, and West Virginia. Mary worked for the Fairbanks Daily News Miner and the Kotzebue Senior Center. She loved sewing, knitting, fishing, camping, and berry picking and also loved to play Bingo.
The family wrote, "Mom adored her family. Whenever any of her children or grandchildren walked in the room, she would always greet them with her beautiful smile and a big " Oh,Hi". She loved drinking coffee day and night. She was a night owl and said "I don't want to sleep, I might miss something". She loved family gatherings and if she could, she would do them daily just to spend time with everyone."Mom lived a good life and knew in her heart, without a doubt that when it was her time to go, she would be with Jesus!!
She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie A. Bailey, Sr. and Mother, Grace Niglik Bailey; sister, Katherine Bailey Hess; brother, Henry Bailey, Sr., Lawrence Bailey, and Lewis Bailey; sister, Judith Bailey Allen; daughter, Sarah Bailey Tiepleman; Late husband, Richard Barrickman Sr., son, John Bradly Barrickman and companion, Elwood Hunnicutt Jr.
She is survived by her sisters, Bertha Fields Wells of Noorvik, AK and Lorena Bailey Williams of Kotzebue, AK; brother, Bill C. Bailey of Anchorage; sons, Lewis Barrickman of Anchorage, Richard Barrickman of Sterling, and Timothy Barrickman and his wife Cindy Barrickman of Anchorage; daughters, Kathleen Bannon of Homer, Caroline Smith and husband, Al Smith of Sterling, Colleen Stuller of Soldotna and Shelly Barnett and her husband, Jim Barnett of West Virginia and too many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to list.
