Nick Sacaloff Jr. Obituary
Lifelong Kenai resident, Mr. Nick Sacaloff Jr., 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 24, 2018.

A celebration of Nick's life will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel & Crematory, 5839 Kenai Spur Highway, Kenai. A potlatch will follow a Tyotka's Elder Center in Old Town Kenai.

Nick was born in Kenai on Nov. 29, 1942. Nick attended school here and graduated in 1962 with a letter in track. He loved the Kenai Peninsula and all it had to offer, hunting, fishing and providing for others.

Nick was born into a setnet fishing family and was the oldest son, taking care of his mother and siblings.

If you knew Nick, you knew his heart, he always had a smile for a baby, an inspirational word for the troubled and was never short on hugs.

In 1973 he married the love of his life, Veta and together they built a home in Nikiski. They started the first feeding program, two days a week delivering food to the needy, then for nine years served breakfast at Nikiski Elementary School. He followed that by opening a food pantry in the church they loved and served in together, North Star Methodist Church. They believed in feeding the hungry and caring for the widows and orphans.

Nick was a member of the Kenaitze Indian Tribe, Salamatoff and CIRI. He was very proud of his heritage.

Nick was preceded in death by his wife Veta, daughter Nicky, parents and brothers.

He loved his children, grandchildren and family.

He is survived by his daughter Suzette, son Roy, stepsons Richard and Larry, sister Cora and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers you may donate in memory of Nick to the food bank to keep his legacy alive.
