Phyllis Ila (Rogers) Sather Obituary
Longtime Soldotna resident Phyllis Ila Sather, age 86, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018 peacefully at her home.

Phyllis Ila Rogers was born to Myrtle and Harry Rogers, December 6, 1931, near Pillager, Minnesota. These were difficult but loved times, working hard on their farm through the Great Depression, with her two brothers and four younger sisters. She graduated from Washington High School in Brainerd, Minnesota, then married Alfred Sather. They moved to Alaska with their four sons in 1967.

Mrs. Sather owned a music store and grocery on K-Beach for many years and helped plan and build houses with her family. A truly independent, hard working Alaskan woman, who loved and supported her family with thoughtful humor and kind determination, was deeply civic minded, an avid student and patient teacher, an expert at knitting, embroidery, and sewing, a green thumb gardener, a magical homemaker, mother, and grandma, a beautifully prolific poet and lover of music. Facing hardships with grace and dignity, never forgetting how to smile. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, sons John and Richard, brother Donald and sister Niva. Phyllis is survived by her two sons Robert and Paul, sisters Karen, Mavis, and Doris, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Peninsula Memorial Chapel, 5839 Kenai Spur Hwy. Internment will follow at Spruce Grove Memorial Park in Kasilof. Please join the family at reception to celebrate her life will be held after for family and friends at her home, 43636 K-Beach Rd. in Soldotna.
