Homer resident, Mrs. Sharon Andregg Howerton-Thomas, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. She was 70.
Per Sharon's request, no services will be held.
Sharon was born July 30, 1942 in Vallejo, California. She graduated high school from Auburn High School. In 1966 she moved to Alaska where she lived in Eagle River and Chugiak before making Homer her final residence. She worked for the Alaska State Housing Authority for ten years, she volunteered as a dispatcher with the Chugiak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department from 1975 - 1995. She also worked for the Alaska Court System for ten years before finally owning a small tourist shop located on the Homer Spit. Sharon served 8 years with the Alaska Commission on Aging. She also chaired committees as well as served as vice chair and received an "Honoring" award from the Alaska State Legislature.
"Sharon is one of a kind. She didn't consider herself politically correct. She believed that the most important thing in her life was her friends and family, who helped her make it through her life. Her friends believe it was Sharon who helped them make it through their lives," the family wrote.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde; daughter, Lena "LeLe"; father, Norm; mother, Betty; and sister, Liz.
She is survived by her husband, Dan Thomas of Kenai; niece, Angie O'Blenis of Pismo Beach, CA; nephew, John Farros of South Lake Tahoe, CA; and cousins, Bill McGee and Meme Hurd both of Santa Rosa, CA.
