Longtime Alaskan Susan Kunimura Myers passed away on June 4, 2018, at her home from natural causes.

Susan was born in Gilroy, California, on May 12, 1955, to Casey Kunimura and Dorothy Kunimura. She graduated from Gilroy High School in 1973 then went on to receive a Bachelor's of Science in Biology from Utah State University in 1979 and a Bachelor's of Science in Medical Technology from Weber State University in 1984.

Susan came to Alaska in 1983 and made her residence in Soldotna where she later married Daniel R. Myers on February 21, 1987. Susan and Dan came to have two children, Matthew Ross Myers and Emily Rose Myers. She was very proud of her children, with her son Matthew being a Ph.D candidate in psychology and Emily a Hospice RN.

Susan started working at Central Peninsula General Hospital in 1983 and worked there until her untimely passing. She worked in the hospital laboratory as a Medical Technologist, lab manager, and then later as Director of the Clinical Laboratory, making a total of 35 years at CPGH. As a manager, Susan set high expectations for herself and others, she never shied away from a challenge, and always gave credit where credit was due.

Susan was very happy living in Alaska and loved outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, fishing, and camping. In the winter she enjoyed cross-county skiing. She was a fine cook of Alaskan and Japanese cuisine and a master at smoking salmon. Susan was a very creative and artistic person with the talent to make the most beautiful quilts, clothes, knits, beadings, cards, and needlepoints. She loved her home on the Kenai River but most of all she loved her craft room where there was a bounty of craft supplies and she was surrounded by her creations. This was her little piece of heaven where she would retreat and unwind from the daily grind. Being very generous, she volunteered her time and craft supplies to teach others how to create gorgeous homemade Valentines, thank-you notes, and beaded bracelets.

Susan was an advocate of responsible pet ownership, always had cats and dogs, and loved her pets.

She will be most dearly missed by her family and those that knew her.

Susan is survived by her husband, Daniel; children, Matthew Myers (Jessica Bilstein) and Emily Cummins (Michael Cummins); parents, Casey Kunimura and Dorothy Kunimura; brothers, Dennis Kunimura (Hollis Kunimura) and Danny Kunimura (Caroline Kunimura).

Memorial contributions can be made to the Kenai Animal Shelter, 510 North Willow Street Kenai, Alaska 99611.

No services are planned at her request.
