Nikiski resident William Joseph Nelson Sr., 80, passed away, Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna.

A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.

He will be laid to rest with his wife, Mary Nelson, in the Maui Veteran's Cemetery at a later date.

William was born Nov. 9, 1937 in Savannah, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the 14thMarine Corps Reserve District from 1954-62. He worked and retired as a crane operator with the Local 3 Operating Engineers of Kahului Maui of Hawaii.

William was preceded in death by his wife, Mary.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Donna and William Landford of Nikiski, Yolanda Nelson of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Victoria Nelson of Kahului, Maui, Hawaii; sons and daughters-in-law, William Nelson Jr. of Nikiski, Tommy and Nadeen Nelson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Ernest and Cindy Nelson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rather than flowers the family prefers memorial donations be given to them for later use.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
