Kenai resident, Lionel David McCafferty, passed away September 19, 2013 at the military hospital at J BER Fort Richardson. He was 61.

Lionel was born Nov. 6, 1951, in Sitka AK to Aaron and Dorothy McCafferty.
He was drafted and served a tour in Vietnam; he was awarded the Purple Heart for serving his country along with a presidential certificate.
Lionel had an infectious sense of humor which he was always willing to share with those that he encountered with his off colored jokes and amusing life stories.
Lionel's words of encouragement to all, "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change COURAGE to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference".
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Nellie Knapp; mother Dorothy Volkheimer, father Aaron McCafferty, and brother Robert McCafferty.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years Sandy McCafferty, his children Christopher, Mike, Rich and Steven and ten siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
