Edmond Dalgardno of Port Angeles passed into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus on January 2, 2014.
Ed was born to Gramby and Alice (Sizer) Dalgardno on January 4, 1930, in Orting, Washington. Ed grew up in the Quilcene and Chimacum areas, completing his schooling in the 10th grade at Quilcene.
Ed worked at several farms in the area, including the Bishop and Munn farms. He also delivered newspapers to distribution points.
In 1949, he met his wife-to-be, Shirley Matthews. In 1950, he began working at the Rayonier mill in Port Angeles.
In 1951, Ed was drafted into the Army and served through 1952. He served in the Korean conflict
as a field wireman. He served with distinction, receiving the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Stars
and the United Nations Service Medal. Ed achieved the rank of corporal.
In 1952, Shirley and her "Soldier Boy" were married.
Ed was a strong worker and a good provider. For 25 years, they lived on a small farm just west of the airport raising cattle and harvesting hay. Ed worked at Rayonier mill until 1957, when he began his truck driving career, where he gained his trucker name, "Little Toot."
He worked for several companies, including Atlantic Richfield, Zarana Fisheries, Schramm Trucking and High Tide Seafoods. Ed drove truck until 2012, a career spanning 55 years.
Ed was a 33-year member of Independent Bible Church. He and Shirley spent many hours volunteering in the church office.
Ed is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley, and his brother, Roderick (Sonja) Dalgardno of Edmonds, Washington. He is also survived by his son, Ernie (Jeanne) Dalgardno; daughter Dava (John) McNutt; eight grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Margaret; and his son Ralph.
A memorial service will be held at Independent Bible Church, 116 Ahlvers Road, Port Angeles, on Friday, January 24, 2014, at 1 p.m. Pastor Mike Jones will officiate over the service. A reception will follow.
