Elmer Clare Winters, age 77, of Port Angeles passed away from complications from a stroke at Crestwood Convalescent Center on September 27, 2012.
Clare was born on December 18, 1934, in Port Angeles to Kenneth Clare Winters and Lorene McDonald Winters. He attended Port Angeles High School and graduated with the Class of 1953.
In June of 1958, he married Karen M. Jhanson of Port Angeles.
He served with the U.S. Navy
from 1953 to 1957 and worked in refrigeration (2nd class). Mr. Winters worked as a gas station attendant, oil truck driver and a log truck driver. He retired in 1997.
His two favorite things in life were being a father to his two sons and his years of being a log truck driver. He also enjoyed any type of carpentry, automotive work and getting together with his classmates. He dearly loved being with his grandchildren.
Mr. Winters was a member of the Teamsters Union, Independent Bible Church, Elks Naval Lodge and Eagles.
Clare is survived by wife Karen Winters; sons Steve and Robert Winters of Port Angeles; sister Chetta Wallace of Port Angeles; foster daughters Lila Niehus of McMinnville, Oregon, Sue Stoneman of Port Angeles and Crystal Elkhart Billings of Sequim; grandchildren Brian Winters (Shelby), Joshua Winters (Jonquille), Casey Winters (Jacki) and Jesse Winters, all of Port Angeles, Justin Winters of Forks, and Jennifer Hipa (Hekili) and Tiffany Winters of Hawaii; and great-grandchildren Braden and Blaine Hipa, both of Hawaii, Cole and Liam Winters, and Kenzee and Kolby Winters, all of Port Angeles.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father and sister Rhetta Barclay.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Independent Bible Church, 116 East Ahlvers Road, at 2 p.m. A potluck reception will follow.
