John William O'Brien(April 17, 1941 - October 1, 2013)

John was born in Queens, New York City, on April 17, 1941, and died in Port Angeles on October 1, 2013, at home.

His family moved to Florida at the end of high school.

Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and spent one tour in Vietnam, then joined the submarines force, traveling the world, including San Diego, California; Hawaii; and Everett, Washington.

He retired after 20 years of service.

He worked for the telephone company in Southern California and then went to work as an owner-operator for Swift Trucking, retiring with seven years' perfect driving record.

He is survived by a son, Mike O'Brien of Florida, and his love and companion, Joan Morrish.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles and his home away from home, the Moose Lodge.

A celebration of life will be held this Saturday, October 5, at 2 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 809 South Pine Street, Port Angeles. The event will be a potluck and feature finger foods.

His ashes will be committed to the sea in the spring.
