Stephen Frederick Kennedy(January 10, 1930 - January 19, 2013)

Mr. Stephen Frederick Kennedy passed away of congestive heart failure at his Port Angeles home.

He was born on January 10, 1930, in Casper, Wyoming, to Herbert Leslie and Bertha (Sihler) Kennedy. His family moved to Montana before Stephen finally found his home on the Olympic Peninsula in 1948.

Stephen joined the Army in 1952 and served until 1955 in the Counter Intelligence Corps.

He achieved his bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology at Pacific Lutheran University before pursuing graduate studies at Western Washington University and the University of Washington.

He took his considerable knowledge back to the classroom when he began teaching for the Port Angeles School District. He spent 31 years with the school district, primarily teaching biology at Port Angeles Senior High School.

He took his interest in education abroad when he worked various projects for Makumira Secondary School in Makumira, Tanzania.

Stephen spent his free time sailing the waters of British Columbia and Washington with his wife, Joan Marie (Engstrom) Kennedy.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Angeles and the Rotary Club of Port Angeles.

Stephen leaves behind his sons, Erik and Andrew Kennedy of Port Angeles.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, on July 18, 2001.

A memorial service officiated by Pastor Richard Grinstad will take place at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 East Lopez Avenue, Port Angeles, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 9.
