Violet Embree Obituary

Violet Louise "Vi" McRoberts Embree went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 29, 2011, with her family by her side.

She was the firstborn child of John Roy Timm and Dorothy Pearl (Wiseman) Timm and grew up on the family wheat farm in Garfield, Washington.

She graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1947.

She came to Port Angeles and began working at Davidson-Hay Hospital in 1948 for $9 a day.

Along the way, she raised two sons and a daughter.

She concluded her career at Olympic Memorial Hospital in 1988.

She married Keith McRoberts in 1991; he passed away in 1998. She then married Lee Embree in 2001; he passed away in 2008.

Vi enjoyed life. She liked to dance, play bridge, play the organ and piano, and travel. She was baptized in the Jordan River in 1985.

The "love of her life" was photography and taking pictures of everyone and everything she came into contact with.

She was a co-founder of Olympic Timber Town, a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Washington State Grange. She belonged to the Klahhane Hiking Club, senior center bridge and the Strait Wheelers Square Dance Club, and was an honorary member of the Port Angeles Eagles Past Presidents Club.

Vi was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Port Angeles. She served in many ways through the years as a member of many committees, as pianist or organist, and as deacon.

She found great comfort in the support she always received from Pastor Ted Mattie and everyone there. She was especially blessed by the love and friendship of her "almost sister" Delores Elwood.

Survivors include daughter Dot (Bill) Starkey of Prosser, Washington; son John (Betty) Ihrig of Auburn, Washington; daughter-in-law Barb Ihrig of Port Angeles; stepson Gary (Val) McRoberts of Port Angeles; stepdaughter Sherrill (Karl) Clajus of Sequim; siblings Fred (Betty) Timm, Wanda Roper, Agnes (Clem) Palmer and Donna (Leon) Kottke; grandchildren Robert (Samantha) Ihrig, Jodi (Chad) Sabin, Nicole Ihrig, David (Heather) Starkey and Kayla Ihrig; and great-grandchildren Hayley and Kora.

She was preceded in death by three siblings and her husbands, Keith McRoberts and Lee Embree.

The family invites you to join them for memorial services to be held at Park View Villas, 1430 Park View Lane, Port Angeles, on Friday at 2 p.m. and at First Presbyterian Church, 139 West Eighth Street, Port Angeles, on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.

Drennan & Ford Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. An online guest book may be signed at www.drennanford.com.

My sincere sorrow as Vi passed on. We both were grads of St. Lukes Hospital, Spokane and enjoyed nursing. Vi was a stalwrt soul and I admired her courage to travel independently in these later years.
