Mr. David F. Howell Sr. of Sequim passed away on November 29, 2012, of age-related causes. He was 82 years old.

David was born in Colville, Washington, to Donald Louis Howell and Clara Katherine Howell (née Doyle) on September 28, 1930.

He graduated from high school in Blaine, Washington, and joined the Air Force on August 17, 1948. As an airman 1st class, he studied to become an aircraft mechanic at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi and was stationed at Williams Air Force Base in Chandler, Arizona. He received an honorable discharge on July 23, 1952, and soon relocated back to Washington state.

David worked at the Georgia Pacific Mill in Bellingham, Washington, for many years and then at the Port of Port Angeles Marine Dock for 26 years before retiring. He enjoyed his work with the Port of Port Angeles and made many lasting memories with his close group of friends.

The jokes he brought home from his work experiences have stayed with the family for generations, where asking for a "sipsip" of water is completely natural.

David married Ms. Patsy Ann Fayette on December 27, 1950, in Blaine. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage.

After David's retirement, the pair became "snowbirds," enjoying the warm winter weather of Quartzsite, Arizona.

He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Donald L. and Clara K. Howell; daughter Katherine P. Schlaffman; son David F. Howell Jr.; and brother Donald D. Howell.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Ann Howell; sons Joseph P. (Kathleen) Howell of Littleton, Colorado, James L. (Sonja) Howell of Salinas, Ecuador, and Michael J. (Janeen) Howell of Port Angeles; daughters Ann M. (Robert) Dryke, of Port Angeles Therese L. (Per) Agesson of Port Angeles, Laura J. (Clinton) Rushton of Sequim, Margaret R. (Mitch) Warren of Port Angeles, Patricia J. Colwell of Port Angeles, Paula K. Howell of Port Angeles, Barbara J. (Andy) Anders of Port Angeles and Julie R. (David) Boyd of Port Angeles; sister-in-law Barbara Howell of Forks; and son-in-law Eric Schlaffman.

He is also survived by grandchildren Beth, Steve and Thomas Schlaffman, Brenda and Jerry Howell, Megan and David Howell, Amy, Denise, Robert and John Dryke, Daniel and Donald Fairbairn, Marcus Agesson, Karen, Jessica and Carl Rushton, Greg, Tony and Michelle Warren, Stephanie, Dan, Joe and Rachel Colwell, Danielle and Rob Howell, Alecia and Ashley Howell, Sarah Sullivan and Kenneth Anders, and Samantha and Emily Boyd.

David is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held for David on Monday, December 10, 2012, at Queen of Angels Church, 209 West 11th Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in St. Anne's Room at the church immediately after the service.
