Greta-Ann Cook Obituary

My wild, young-at-heart mother, Greta-Ann Doutré Cook, peacefully died March 1, 2014.

Although life had thrown many challenges at her, my mom never seemed to slow down or give up. She lived life to the fullest and fought to stay on this Earth to care for me and love me as long as she possibly could.

She had much love, gratitude and admiration for me, her family, friends and community.

Never have I seen someone so passionate about the outdoors or as adventurous and creative as my mother. She loved nothing more than soaking up the sun and wakeboarding out at our house on Lake Sutherland.

She chose a lifelong career with the National Park Service, working in Shenandoah, Yellowstone and then our own Olympic National Park.

And, as if work alone wasn't enough, all throughout her life, Greta spent copious amounts of time volunteering wherever she could.

Survivors include myself, Caylie Pauline Cook; her mother, Greta Doutré; brothers David, Craig and Scott; sister Lisa; as well as our beloved dogs, Jezzi and Tink.

She was preceded in death by my wonderful father, Paul Cook, and her father, David Lamar Doutré.

I am forever grateful for everyone who has helped my mother and me throughout the years. Thank you to the many devoted medical staff and friends that have cared for her.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m. at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 East Seventh Street.

Those who knew and loved my mother are welcome. Bring your stories and memories to share.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 132 South 600 East, No. 100, Salt Lake City, UT 84102.

What a beautiful tribute to your Mom, Caylie! I had the joy of knowing your mom only for 4 years, but she left a big hole in our hearts her at the kidney center. :( She was so full of life in spite of the roadblocks that came her way. Our hearts are with you and your family. Kathy O.

Oh Caylie, What a lovely tribute to your mother. I have so many happy memories of her and our family time together at the lake house. Our annual Labor Day weekend tradition and Holidays spent together. I'll remember your mom as being a lovely hostess when we came to visit. She always had a variety of activities/adventures to enhance our family time. It was so fun to watch her start out as a beginning wake boarder and grow to Master Boardmanship! And, boy howdy, she could "cook"! I am deeply sorry for your loss, my dear. Know that she treasured you and was so very proud of you. A mother's love for her child is like no other love in the world. I love you, Auntie Sue

Caylie, Great photo of you and Greta. I love the look on her face. It is still hard to believe that someone so full of life can be gone. Her life was shorter than we wanted. Considering all that she went through in the last 10 years, I don't think any one could have lived it with more grace. I miss her as I know you do too. You wrote a beautiful tribute to your Mom. Mary

I think of this picture and how natural, healthy and happy she looks with you in her arms and I"m pretty sure your dad took the photo-good times! That's how I want remember her! Hang in there-we will all get through this together! Love you tuns! See you soon, Aunt Lisa and family
