James G. Chaney, Jr. (Jim) passed away peacefully in his Port Townsend home on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from Cholangiocarcinoma-a rare form of cancer.

Born September 6, 1948 to James Sr., and Gladys Chaney in Klamath Falls, Oregon, Jim grew up with a love for camping, fishing and the outdoors. He earned a B.S. and M.S. degree from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon. While originally trained as an educator, Jim found his true calling in hospital administration.

He served as Chief Financial Officer for many hospitals in Washington State including: Capital Medical Center in Olympia; Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata; Jefferson Healthcare in Port Townsend; Providence Hospital in Centralia, and Sunnyside Community Hospital in Sunnyside. He finished out his career serving as dual CEO/CFO for Forks Community Hospital in Forks.

Strongly committed to community, Jim was an active member of Kiwanis International for much of his career. By friends and family, Jim was known for his outgoing nature, deep love of family, quiet faith and strong sense of integrity.

His memory is cherished by his life-long love and wife, Leann Chaney (Port Townsend, WA), three children, Jason Chaney (Lynnwood, WA), Karen Pilo (Hillsboro, OR), and Kristin Chaney (Mandeville, LA), as well as ten wonderful grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Julia Krieger (Klamath Falls, OR).

A Celebration of Life memorial service officiated by his pastor, Jim Rosenquist, will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Calvary Community Church (82 Romans Road in Port Townsend, WA). All those who knew and loved Jim are invited to join his family for the memorial, which will be followed by an informal reception.
