Janet Gayle Ljubich (known for many years as Jan Forsberg) died of cancer on April 20, 2013, following very brief hospitalizations in Mazatlan, Mexico, and Seattle. She was 80 years old.

Born July 8, 1932, to Elizabeth Ann Schade Hoff and Edward John Hoff of Seattle, Jan graduated from Ballard High School and attended Washington State University.

She married Walter Alwyn Forsberg in 1954, joining him on Forsberg Farms pioneer dairy farm in Dry Creek, established by Walt's ancestors in 1891. They had two daughters, Polly and Leslie.

Jan was a reporter and sales representative at the Port Angeles Evening News and then KAPY Radio, where she was a co-owner.

After Jan and Walter divorced in 1970, Jan moved to a cabin she had built on Lake Sutherland, where she enjoyed drop-in visitors and the quiet pleasures of the lake, with hummingbirds, wildlife and beautiful sunsets.

In 1973, she married John Ljubich of Vashon Island.

Jan's biggest passion in life was traveling. She enjoyed trips to Asia and Europe, sometimes with family, and was always planning her next trip. Her other passion was Mazatlan.

For more than 35 years, Jan spent the winters in Mazatlan, where she was known as Juanita. There, she walked on the beach daily, visited with her many friends and through the Vineyard Church helped feed and clothe children living at the city dump.

Jan will always be remembered for her joyful spirit and her love of friends and family.

Jan was predeceased in death by her husband, John Ljubich; and her sister, Betty Ann Hoff.

She is survived by daughters Polly A. Forsberg and Leslie Mae (Eric) Forsberg, both of Seattle; grandchildren Kirsten Annalisa Zeller and Peter Axel Forsberg; stepdaughters Louii J. Ljubich and Carlee J. Ljubich; niece Diana (Robert) Ludke; nephew Michael (Sherry) Hoff; grandniece Jessica (Joe) Cluett; and great-great-nephew and -niece Jadon and Ryan.

There will be no formal service. Jan's family will celebrate her life privately.

Jan requested that any memorial donations in her memory be made to Heifer International (www.heifer.org), a global charity that provides chickens and goats to poor families, helping to end hunger and poverty.
