Peter Gordon Watkins was born on October 15, 1951, to Gordon and Barbara Watkins in Luton, England.
Sadly, he passed away on October 5, 2013.
He grew up in England until 1961, when the family moved to California.
In 1972, he met Portia Stevens, and they wed in 1976. The newlyweds moved to Chicago, Illinois, where Peter worked for W.W. Grainger as a systems analyst.
In 1980, they welcomed their first daughter, Vanessa. Shortly thereafter, they decided they did not want to raise their family in the city and relocated to Agnew, where they purchased the Agnew Grocery from Peter's parents in 1981.
In 1984, they welcomed their second daughter, Gayle, and in 1988 their son, Geoffrey.
Peter and Portia owned and operated the Agnew Grocery until 2009. Peter also spent many years coaching his children's soccer teams, as well as some years coaching junior varsity girls and boys soccer at Sequim High School.
He was famous in his family for his extraordinary cooking and dinner parties. He loved spending time with his family, vacationing with his wife in Las Vegas, golfing, spending family time at Lake Ozette and helping others.
He had a wonderful, dry sense of humor and a big heart that he tried to hide but wasn't fooling anyone.
His family was the most important thing to him. He loved his wife dearly and was incredibly proud of his children.
He was preceded in death in 1993 by his daughter Gayle, whom he loved with all his heart until his own passing, as well as his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Portia; daughter Vanessa; and son Geoffrey.
He is also survived by his brother Robert Watkins and Margie Bartee; Robert's children, Laura (Stu) Miller and Richard Watkins; Margie's children, Alanna, Johanna and Naomi Bartee; and Laura's and Stu's children, Ivan and Anna.
Peter also leaves behind another brother, Andrew (Helen) Watkins, and their son, Evan Watkins; and sister Sarah (Bruce) Bedinger and their children Melissa, Matthew and Daniel Bedinger.
A celebration of life is planned at The Cutting Garden, 303 Dahlia Llama Lane, Sequim, today, October 13. All are welcome and invited to drop in anytime between 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to share remembrances with friends and family.
