Richard J. Gesellchen passed away December 9, 2013, at the age of 93.
Born December 23, 1919, in Oriska, North Dakota, he was a veteran of World War II.
While stationed in Neah Bay, he met and married Betty Jo Archer. They celebrated 69 years together on March 21, 2013.
Although he was a transplanted North Dakota "farm boy," he loved the Pacific Northwest and knew an amazing amount of history and trivia of the area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and spent countless hours on the beach with his family digging clams or netting smelt.
Richard was a master mechanic who worked for many years at Lannoye Motors. He was known for his sense of humor and adventure, and leaves behind a larger-than-life legacy of family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons Richard D. Gesellchen of Port Angeles and Gary (Claire) Gesellchen of Seattle, Washington; daughters Juanita (Ken) Koehl of Charlotte, North Carolina, Sherry (Bob) Schleufer of Longview, Washington, and Karen Borneman of Port Angeles; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Mount Angeles Memorial Park, 45 South Monroe Road, Port Angeles.
A celebration of life will follow from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 809 South Pine Street, Port Angeles.
