Vincent passed away peacefully at Crestwood Convalescent Center in Port Angeles from complications of a stroke.
He was born to Salvatore and Adeline (Verdarosa) in Manhattan, New York, and raised in the Bronx, New York.
He joined the army in 1942, 3432nd Ordnance Medium Automotive Maintenance. He was stationed in Africa, France, Germany and Italy. Before going overseas, while stationed in Port Angeles, he met the love of his life, Betty Lockhart, at the USO in January 1943. They were married December 11, 1943.
World War II ended, and the day after coming home, he was hired at Washington Pulp (Crown Zellerbach) in Port Angeles. He enjoyed working there for 33 years, retiring from management at age 55.
His passion was wood working, traveling and collecting steel banks. He volunteered at the food bank for 17 years. Vince and Betty attended many Army reunions all over the country for many years.
He leaves behind his wife, Betty; daughter Gail Engel (Jim); three sisters, Eleanor Sitowitz of the Bronx, Anna Harkinson of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Adeline Johnson of Paramus, New Jersey; grandsons Jeff Taylor of Shelby, Montana, and Jason Engel of Bellingham, Washington; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sister Virginia Massey of the Bronx.
The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Olympic Medical Center and especially the staff at Crestwood for the care they provided. They were wonderful.
At his request, there will be family services only.
