Velma passed away at home in Port Angeles of age-related causes at the age of 90.
She was born at the family farm in Jasper County, Iowa, to Charles E. and Ethel (Miner) Green. She was the only girl in a family of nine children.
She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse until the eighth grade. She was very proud of her high school diploma from Gilman Consolidated School, which she earned in spite of an eye injury received in a car accident.
As a teenager, she worked at the Old Soldiers Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, and later at the canning factory in Gilman, where she met her husband.
She married Keith D. Heinle in 1943 on their lunch hour. In 1953, they moved to Port Angeles with their four children and bought the house where she lived until her death.
Keith passed away in 1980.
Velma's love of travel took her all over the world, at first with Keith and later with many friends and family.
In Port Angeles, she worked at Montgomery Ward, at the phone company as an operator and as a real estate agent. Her final job was at the Speed Klean Laundromat, where she worked until she was 82.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her eight brothers and her grandson Steve Harsh.
She is survived by her children, Kay (Brian) Clark, Vicki (Roger) Foszcz, Michael (Linda) Heinle and Allan Heinle; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and her special friends Val Hilken and Pat Logan.
