Robert (Bob) was born in Seattle, Washington, to Maude and Edward Costain. He grew up in Rainier Valley and graduated from Franklin High School.

He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal until October 1952, and was an honored veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

In 1957, he graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's Degree in education. In 1965, he graduated from Seattle University with a Master's Degree in education.

He married Jan Lombard in March 1953, and was blessed with four children: Catherine Costain, Michael Costain, Carolyn Costain and Robert Cory Costain.

He later married Thelma Lopeman, which added four additional children to his family: Sandra Johnson (Lopeman), Pamela Whelan, (Lopeman), Russ Lopeman and Candace Johnson (Lopeman).

Bob was known as a musician, golfer, hunter, sportsman, teacher, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Bob was an active member of the Port Townsend Golf Club, Port Townsend Elks Club, 2nd Armored Division Association, 96th Infantry Division Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Port Townsend American Legion, International Trumpet Guild, and played for several years in the Stardust and the Sequim City bands.

Bob held a variety of jobs and lived a long, happy life, and was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

Bob is survived by his wife, Thelma Costain; sister, Lenora Strickland; children, Michael Todd Costain, Carolyn Costain and Robert Cory Costain; stepchildren, Sandra Johnson and husband Helmer, Pamela Whelan and husband Pat, Russ Lopeman and wife Rebecca, and Candace Johnson and husband Dean; grandchildren, Isaac Treibel and wife Jessica, Peter Treibel, Germain Costain and Mariah Costain; step-grandchildren TJ Plastow and husband David, Tabi Resch and husband Scott, Travis Schryver, Michael Whelan and wife Fabricia, Barbara Morrison and husband Paul, Russell Lopeman, Kristen Johnson and Taylor Johnson; great-grand children, Isaiah Treibel, Jack Treibel, Django Treibel, Rian Plastow, Amy Plastow, Korryn Resch, Randy Resch, Haley Schryver, Isaac Morrison, Naomi Morrison and Vivian Morrison.

He was preceded in death by daughter Catherine Costain and grandson Robert Treibel.

Today, Wednesday, March 30, 2011, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., his family will host a celebration of his life at the Port Townsend Elks Club, 555 Otto Street, Port Townsend. The Stardust Band will play in his honor.
